Our History

Nutscene has a long established history from 1946 to the present day. Some of the key events in our history are described below.

The Beginning 1922
The Beginning
It all began in 1922 when the first spool of Nutscene was sold to a local nursery by the Jute Merchants Robertson Ireland Ltd based in Dundee Scotland. The product range was expanded in the years running up to World War 2 and sales were made through wholesalers to garden centres, nurseries and ironmongers shops.

Nutscene Ltd was formed 1941
Nutscene Ltd was formed
In 1941 Nutscene Ltd was formed - this was done to allow Nutscene to apply for an allocation of jute yarn from the "Ministry of Supply" during the remaining years of the war and into the late 50's when rationing was finally withdrawn. These allocations confirmed Nutscene's place as a major contributor to wartime and post-war agricultural production.

EFG sells Nutscene to their General Manager
EFG sold Nutscene to their General Manager Murray Anderson in December 1993 and the business is now run under the name of Nutscene Garden Products Ltd. as a private limited company. The 1980's and 1990's have seen a dramatic change in the market with the reduction in the number of wholesalers and ironmonger shops and the rapid expansion of the multiple D.I.Y. retailer. Nutscene has been able to keep abreast of this change and is a very strong manufacturer within the retail and commercial horticultural market.
